This left me with chronic pain, poor balance and restricted mobility.
After unsuccessfully applying for about thirty jobs, I signed up with Workmates and after working with them was offered a two year contract in the Mainstream Programme as an Information Coordinator working 20 hours a week.
The staff I work with have been tremendously understanding and supportive (my boss even asked one of my colleagues to escort me to the bus stop when it was particularly windy).
I had input from a Occupational Therapist who organised a special chair and arm rest for me, as I have a benign nerve tumour in my right arm.
I have regular contact with my Mainstream Consultant, onsite visits and phone calls which I have really appreciated.
I have received wonderful support from everyone I have been involved with and am so grateful that I was given the opportunity to re-enter the paid workforce through the Mainstream Programme.
It has been an amazing experience!
